Occupying an end-terrace position, this family home had an
attached garage running the full depth of the home.
The homeowner wanted additional ground floor space. The solution
was to convert the garage, resulting in a cloakroom/bathroom
with shower,WC and basin, the convenience of a utility room and
family room to the rear.
To enable a larger family room, the extension projects beyond
the old rear wall of the garage, with a separate door into the
garden.
Side elevation.
The old garage wall was not very attractive... finished in raw
blockwork, with further issues being the maintenance of the flat
roof.
The conversion resulted in a pitched roof, to match that of the
main house.. providing a far more appealing and in-keeping
addition to the home.
Front elevation.
The aging garage doors are now replaced with a conventional
cavity wall, behind which is located the cloakroom/bathroom.
The pitched roof over the extension/conversion provides an
greater amount of storage space than the garage it replaced.
